Chapter 1.1 - Vocabulary

Orginism - A being that is living and made up of cells
Cell - The smallest funcional part of an orginism
Unicellular - An orginism made up of only one cell
Multicellular - An orginism made up of multiple cells
Metabolism - A chemical process that occurs within a living organism in to maintain the life of the orginism
Stimulus - A thing that arouses someone
Responnse - A reaction or change in behavior as a result of stimuli
Development - The process of change in an orginisims life
Asexual Reproduction - Reproducing with out physical contact
Sexual Reproduction - A reproductuve process that includes 2 parents and combines there genes
Spontaneous Generation - The supposed production of living organisms from nonliving matter
Controlled Experiment - A scientific control is an experiment or observation designed to minimize the effects of variables other than the independent variable
Autotroph - An organism that is able to form nutritional organic substances from simple inorganic substances such as carbon dioxide
Heterotroph - An organism that cannot produce its own food
Homostasis - The state of steady internal, physical, and chemical conditions maintained by living systems
